His Biography

Retired from Aetna after 26 years, Michael A. Stephen, Doctor of Letters, honoris causa, was Chairman of Aetna International, Inc. (AII), a wholly owned subsidiary of Aetna, Inc.  AII was responsible for Aetna’s business outside of the United States.  Director:  Yonge Street Mission; Chair:  Development Committee, Toronto School of Theology; Founding Board Member, Centre for Work and Spirituality; Chartered Member of Legatus Toronto.  Member of the International Advisory Council of Opera New Brunswick; Member of the Business Advisory Council, University of New Brunswick; Member of the Toronto Harvard Alumni Association.  Clubs:  Toronto; York.

For many years Mr. Stephen has focused on the creation of a business environment where managers experience individual and personal transformation, which in turn assures organizational growth and development.  It is in this environment where competitive advantage is created and nurtured.  He is frequently asked to speak to business and professional groups about the challenges and opportunities in the emerging markets of Asia and Latin America.  In addition to many speaking engagements, Mr. Stephen continues to be active as a consultant and leadership coach.

Married to Beatrice Bourque, they have four children and eight grandchildren.  Michael   meditates daily and enjoys reading, jogging, swimming and politics.

He published his first book in early 2002, entitled “Spirituality in Business – The Hidden Success Factor”.  It describes the international experiences in Asia and the Americas.  The book has been published in Latin America and Russia.  Rights to publish have been sold in China and Indonesia.
